WRAP THE CITY is a concept developed by five likeminded and passionate individuals seeking to demand a change in collaboration protocols and views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Through education we aim to reprogram thoughts on colonialism, Euro-centrism, collaboration, preservation and respect of Indigenous cultures. Our program can be used across all grades in primary schools with specific activities suitable for each age group.
The campaign has been designed in conjunction with NAIDOC week that is to be held on the 6th to 13th July in 2014. During NAIDOC week we propose that banners will be displayed across Brisbane city creating awareness of issues faced by Indigenous Australians. Artwork and slogans featured on the banners will be designed by various primary schools as part of specific subjects following the curriculum that is detailed in the downloadable information pack.
The future aim of the campaign is to become a widespread concept used in schools, eventually to be formed as part of the National curriculum in order to educate all young Australians to create change in current collaboration and appropriation protocols affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
